Frank S Reasoner- Born in Spokane, Wasington in 1937, Frank enlisted in the USMC in 1955. He reached the rank of E-5 before winning a competitive appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point, NY. He entered the academy in 1958 and graduated in 1962. Re-entering the USMC as a 2d LT, Frank’s first assignment was with the 1st Marine Brigade in Hawaii. In March of 1965, the Brigade was reassinged to the Republic of Viet Nam. Through the first 4 months of his new assignment, Frank distinguished himself in combat and earned the respect and admiration of all those in his unit. On 12 July 1965, Frank met his death, near Da Nang, while saving the life of another Marine. The Secretay of the Navy, in January 1967, presented our nation’s highest award, the Congressional Medal of Honor, to Frank’s widow and young son. “Greater love hath no man than to give up his life for another.” Frank was a Marine who lived above the common level of life.
