Casey Casavant

Casey Casavant

Casey was my squad leader at 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.  He was an absolutely incredible, caring, funny, and determined individual.  I can remember on our first deployment to Afghanistan in early 2002, we were up in an area called Shkin on the Pakistan border.  The suits had bought a farm and we were using it for an outpost for SOCOM, brits, orange, etc.  We were literally in the middle of no where, but it was absolutely gorgeous.  I was on the .50 mounted on our humvee and I couldn’t get the darn thing timed.  Casey saw me and had finished his cope and softly came over and asked how he could help.  We sat there for a few hours and got it timed and made sure everything was operating correctly.  But it was the conversation we had while gazing at the stars I remember and cherish the most.  We talked about life, women, booze; you name it, we talked about it.  I had nothing but respect for Casey prior to that conversation.  Afterwards I had nothing but love for him.

Case – you will always be my squad leader brother.  I love and miss you.  Save a beer for me in Valhalla, see you when I do.
